Leafs first star of the game launches FIRSTAR line of clothing

Toronto Maple Leafs goalie James Reimer was the first star in the first regular season game last night shutting out the Montreal Canadians.

Vancouver based FIRSTAR apparel launched a new clothing line with the Toronto goalie and new commercials starring Reimer will begin airing in the Ontario market next week.

Reimer shakin' all over
TORONTO SUN
Oct 7, 2011
While James Reimer was perfect in his 2011-12 season debut on Thursday, he could use a few lessons in marketing.

After blanking the Montreal Canadiens 2-0 at the Air Canada Centre, Reimer was told the victory would be good for sales of his line of sporting undergarments.

“I never thought about it that way,” he laughed. “But I guess the better I play, the better it is in that aspect.”

Over the summer, Reimer introduced his own line of underrudes and t-shirts specifically designed for athletes.

In an ironic twist, the company is called Firstar — the perfect name for a goalie who just happened to be the first star on this night.

Autoway.ca and Cyclo Vac TV commercials air in the Stanley Cup Finals on CBC TV.

It's no secret that Vancouver hockey fans are in for a great ride as their home-town Vancouver Canucks face the Boston Bruins in this year Stanley Cup Finals.

Autoway.ca and Cyclo Vac are running TV commercials in the Seeking Stanely Post Game on CBC after every Stanley Cup Game.

Advertisers are seeing a benefit in association with the Canucks and two clients who have been with the team right from the first pre-season game are Autoway.ca and Cyclo Vac Central Vacuum Systems.

The TV advertising is placed by JACKSON MITCHELL ADVERTISING and agency President Mitch Drew said there are benefits to advertising during the Canucks "The first reason our clients see such strong results from Canucks hockey advertising is the fact that their brand is aligned and positioned with one of the top brands in BC" Drew continues "..and the second and likely the most important reason..is the total viewers of the games, post game coverage and other Canucks related content"

When a team makes it to the finals, the 'light to moderate' Canucks fans becomes much more engaged and the TV audiences increase and advertisers who run commercials see the benefit from higher ratings.

He shoots – and the advertisers score!

The Globe and Mail
It’s Stanley Cup season and that means millions of viewers are parked before their TV sets, fists clasped tight in anticipation and eyes riveted to one fateful spot: the goal.

For advertisers, that kind of engagement is priceless, and more companies are paying to get their brands behind the net, thanks to one bit of technology that is just starting to expand across the National Hockey League. Ad space is going beyond the boards, with virtual signs that project brands on to the glass for TV viewers, without blocking the view of spectators actually in the seats behind the goal.

Why sports isn't just for fun

Sports fans don't just follow the fortunes of their favourite teams, they add to them, too.
Professional sports teams in Canada generate roughly $1.5 billion in revenue per year, according to a new report from the Conference Board of Canada. While that pales in comparison to the $170 billion or so generated by the manufacturing industry (Canada's biggest business sector), it's still proof that sports is more than just fun and games, according to Conference Board chief economist Glen Hodgson.

“This is a very big industry,” said Hodgson, who co-authored the report with Mario Lefebvre, director of the Conference Board's Centre for Municipal Studies. Roughly half of the $1.5 billion is generated by the six NHL teams based in Canada, including the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Telcos make frontal assault on cable’s TV stranglehold

A huge, terrifying shark has just clamped its jagged teeth around a floating mess of chum when the beast, thrashing about on a screen at Telus Corp.’s Toronto offices, suddenly freezes.

Jackie Winterfield, a cheery Telus manager standing in a huge, dark boardroom, has paused the show to demonstrate something. She walks across the room to another television set, taps the remote, and the shark springs back to life, playing from where it left off.

Sports Broadcasters ready to wage war in 2011

The story of 2011 should be the clash of titans. No, not Ovechkin versus Crosby or even Brady v. Brees. The biggest Canadian sports story in the coming year will be played off the fields and rinks as Rogers Communications and CTV/TSN size each other up in the wake of some unprecedented managerial shuffles in 2010. Can they co-exist – as they did for the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver – or will we see the start of a war for rights and control of the next NHL, CFL and soccer World Cup TV rights packages?
